Shining Lights

3 to 4 YEARS

Preschool is a time where natural curiosity takes flight as children engage with their environment and classmates. This age is all about expression when children really start to form their own ideas about what they want to play and how they can affect the world around them. Daily arts and crafts activities foster individual creativity, and self-expression. Group circle time starts to expand as we build on their knowledge of the alphabet, colors, counting, and shapes, and introduce fine motor and writing skills.  In the Shining Lights classroom while learning math, science, pretend play, and group play we help them get used to a more structured school setting. Through a variety of activities, music, movement, sensory play and free time we encourage children to discover the fun of learning. Children are encouraged to explore their world with curiosity and joy.

Our compassionate and experienced teachers guide the children as they learn to participate in positive social interactions, practice making good choices, display good manners, and take responsibility for their behavior as they become more self-aware. We provide a loving, Christ-centered environment where children are encouraged to grow in their faith, develop independence, and explore their creativity.

Pre-K

All our Pre-K programs are designed to prepare children for kindergarten by providing a curriculum that emphasizes language and literacy, math, science, art and music, as well as fostering essential academic, social and emotional development. With a focus on early phonics, number recognition, and fine motor development, children are equipped with the tools and confidence needed for a smooth transition into kindergarten. We encourage our students to become independent learners by encouraging self-help skills, responsibility, and decision-making while developing their own preferences for learning and interests.  Our curriculum balances teaching, cooperative play and social development as part of kindergarten readiness. Our classroom is divided into centers where hands on learning activities are designed to inspire wonder, spark new ideas, and build a love of learning.

Our teachers understand next steps in learning and excel at preparing children for the transition to school. Founded in Christian values our play-based learning, daily routines and hands-on activities create a place where children work collaboratively and build meaningful relationships where they treat others with compassion, respect and integrity.

We understand each family has different Pre-K scheduling needs for their child, that’s why we offer 3 different class options. The classroom curriculum is the same age-appropriate content, the differences between the classes are the duration of the additional hours needed. To accommodate families with unique schedules we offer Sonshine Express and Sonshine Kids classes that combine with extended hours and offer year-round childcare. We also offer a more typical academic school year only Jr. Kindergarten class designed to provide a school hours only program. Jr. Kindergarten has set hours and is scheduled during the school year only without the option of additional hours or year-round care. In all our Pre-K classrooms, children develop the skills needed for their next steps of learning while they explore, discover, create, play, feel known, loved, and are inspired to shine.

  • "We love Sonshine Center! Both of our girls are currently enrolled. We have had our youngest there since 6mo old. The staff is all wonderful! It is apparent that they love their jobs and truly care for each child. We feel so lucky to have found Sonshine Center! It made returning to work as new parents easier— to know that our girls were safe and well taken care of."
